A photo means something different inside a conversation
The same frame reads as content in a gallery and as an answer in a thread. Only one of those is worth having.
In an AI girlfriend picture chat the picture is a reply. You asked something, and what came back is a frame plus a sentence, in the order a person would send them. That context does most of the work: a photograph that answers a question you just asked carries weight that the identical file sitting in a grid never will.
It also changes what you do next. You reply to the photo — about the room, the jacket, the light — and the thread continues from there, so the following frame is a response rather than another render. The keep and cross marks apply inside the conversation too, which is why the fourth photo of an evening usually looks like it belongs with the first three.

One evening in a picture chat, start to finish
You open the thread and ask what she is doing. A line comes back and a frame under it, cool light, laptop still open. You say it looks cold in there; the next photo has a sweater in it. Ten minutes and four photos later the thread has a shape, and the strip in the corner has three keeps and one cross.
The next night the conversation opens with that context intact. The room is the same, the sweater turns up again, and the running joke about the desk lamp survives. That continuity is the difference between a picture chat and a gallery you happen to be talking to.
